The lake varies between 10 and 16 feet in depth and covers around four acres with a large bamboo-covered island along the opposite [jungle bank] harbouring kingfishers, egrets, night herons and monitor lizards etc. The rest of the perimeter is planted with colourful heliconias along the margins fronting each swim and a variety of local palms, trees and bamboos.
The water is coloured a nice shade of green with about two feet of clear visibility, and there is a vast natural food stock in the way of freshwater shrimps, snails, aquatic insect larvae, molluscs and small native fish species like baby garfish and gouramis.
The lake contains both arapaima and Mekong catfish to over 100lbs, with most of the other species stocked varying between 20 and 60lbs. hard fighting adversaries like red tail and tiger catfish, chao phraya catfish, ripsaw catfish, swai catfish, walking catfish, [8 species of catfish] giant Siamese black carp, giant gourami’s, Julian’s prize carp, giant snakehead, broad nosed alligator garfish, pacu, tambaqui, etc. Head guide is David Wilson who has fished and lived in Thailand for 12 years. John takes many of the pictures of angler’s catches, and ensures that every guest leaves with his or her own DVD of the fish they caught. Both playing and displaying.
We specialise in using different techniques from float fishing ‘lift style’ close in, to taking swai, giant carp and gourami’s using a floating controller rig, plus fly rod action in addition to the more relaxed, two-rod ledgering approach, using bolt rigs and method feeders.
